Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Establish and maintain safe classroom environment by implementing behavior management techniques together with the Teacher. Assist with the planning of the curriculum and, in consultation with the Teacher, implement specific parts of the curriculum. Substitute teach in the classroom in the absence of the Teacher. Assist the Teacher in writing and maintaining required records. Participate in case management process for assigned students. Assure that administrative and/or department directives are enforced. Perform other duties, as requested. Demonstrate familiarity with cultural patterns existing within a community which may affect the behavior of children and adolescents Work effectively as a member of a team Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of special education and psychology. Establish relationships with children and adolescents on a group and individual basis, gaining their trust and confidence Accept supervision from the Teacher Physically intervene and restrain students, male and female, as necessary. Able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills Able to operate agency vehicles, i.e., valid Maryland Driver s License. Able to work cooperatively with others. Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in education or a related field.
