Staff Conflict Clearance Attorney The candidate will help ensure that the firm and its lawyers do not inadvertently violate the conflict of interest rules that regulate the profession in the jurisdictions in which the firm operates. This is a critical and complicated task given that the firm has more than 400 attorneys in 8 jurisdictions and that the firm represents many thousands of clients who are adverse to many thousands of adversaries. Will review conflict reports for potential new matters for new and existing clients and determines whether taking on the potential new matters involves a conflict of interest. This involves identifying possible conflicts on the conflict report, and contacting the responsible attorneys handling existing matters to resolve those possible conflicts. As needed, perform research on legal issues relating to ethics matters, perform conflicts checks for new hires firm-wide, work with staff in client/adversary screening department, draft confidentiality walls and secure compliance with them, assist lawyers with drafting of engagement letter provisions to address conflicts of interest, and act as a backup to the Staff Ethics and Conflicts Attorneys in reviewing client/matter intake screening memos.
