Engineering Leader
Location: Brandon, MB
We are a multi-facility company. The Brandon plant is a large, complex manufacturing facility and fills a strategic role in the corporate supply goals. The Engineering Leader is responsible to provide the Engineering capabilities to support the operations of our Brandon, Manitoba fertilizer manufacturing facility. As a part of the leadership team, this is a key role for the strategic efforts to improve safety, compliance, reliability and production for the facility.
General Responsibilities:
Reports to: Plant Manager
- Coordinate activities of engineering staff including process engineers, project engineers, discipline engineers, and drafting technicians, to support plant safety, compliance and production goals.
- Ensure that capital and expense projects are scoped, budgeted, evaluated, approved and executed in a safe, timely, cost-efficient and technically acceptable manner.
- Manage engineering activities for design, procurement and installation of process systems, equipment, engineered structures, buildings, electrical and control systems for the facility.
- Mentor process engineers in continuous improvement of operating facilities to enhance production throughput, efficiency, profitability, safety, and environmental conformity.
- Ensure that systems and resources are in place for the inspection, quality assurance and testing of pressure vessels, pressure piping, safety reliefs, tankage, lifting devices and corrosion-inhibition systems, in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Provide technical support and expertise on troubleshooting equipment and system deficiencies, promote innovations and provides guidance towards improvingBrandon's competitive edge.
- Support the reliability team in implementing their strategies to reduce equipment failures.
- Play a critical role in the success of bi-annual turnaround planning and execution.
- Capture regulatory and internal needs for safety and compliance, including requirements on codes, permits, and process safety management, for new and retrofit work and for repairs.
As a leader at the facility this role is responsible for the following:
- Safety and Environmental – Ensure full compliance with codes and regulations. Supply the technical resources and expertise needed to support the facilities’ Process Safety Management program.
- Process monitoring and optimization – Support operations to develop and meet production plans by monitoring plant performance and identifying areas of improvement on a daily basis
- Asset maintenance – Provide engineering support to meet facility reliability goals and optimize the life cycle cost of equipment. Reliability team activities including mechanical integrity of pressurised systems & tankage on site in conjunction with regulatory authorities
- Opportunity identification and scope development – Identify plant performance gaps in production and reliability, and work with the operating and business team to develop opportunities to close these gaps
- Opportunity capture – Provide the management capabilities to effectively execute projects. The role will ensure that the facility project management process aligns with our company's project management process.
- Engineering Excellence – Provide systems and resources for quality engineering, cost estimates, conceptual and detailed designs, procurement and construction in multiple disciplines;
- Strategic Management - Develop and implement the strategic plans necessary to drive the organization to meet and exceed the performance goals of the company
Qualifications & Experience:
- BSc Engineering required (Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred)
- Eligible for registration in province of Manitoba as a Professional Engineer
- Engineering leadership experience at a chemical plant, petro-chemical plant, or refinery
- Development and successful implementation of major change initiatives
- Conversant with process health monitoring, process modeling, energy balance development, and advanced control systems, used for optimization of production processes.
- Strong commitment to Safety & Environmental Compliance, Plant Reliability, and Production Excellence
- Proven leadership skills, organizational skills, high work standards, strong technical abilities, strong business skills, and personal accountability
- Working knowledge of applicable regulatory and industry standards such as ASME, API, NFPA, OSHA
- Ability to support the needs of a manufacturing facility that operates 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
- Availability for weekend work and travel, including air travel
