Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Maintains various reports and records including vehicle maintenance reports, employee time and attendance records, sweeper reports, and fuel usage records. Inspects assigned areas of responsibility for maintenance repair or replacement needs; advises superiors as required. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble; dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using cranes, hand tools, and power tools; repairs or replaces defective parts as required. Reads diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specification to troubleshoot/diagnose equipment failures. Discusses work assignments with supervisor and co-workers; interfaces routinely with electricians and other trades employees. Interacts with employees and citizens when they are affected by areas closed for maintenance. Attends meetings, seminars, workshops and/or training sessions as required to remain knowledgeable of departmental operations, to promote improved job performance, and to stay current with changing policies, procedures, and codes. Typical Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required; six months previous maintenance experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license. Supplemental Information: Has good knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of the City and the various department operations and functions. Has good knowledge of maintenance and repair practices, policies and procedures as necessary in the completion of daily responsibilities. Has good knowledge of all applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job. Knows how to keep abreast of any changes in policy, methods, operations, budgetary and equipment needs, etc. as they pertain to departmental operations and activities. Is able to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, members of the general public and all other groups involved in the activities of the City as they relate to the department. Is able to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner. Has good organizational and technical skills. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations using statistical calculations. Is knowledgeable and proficient with computers.
