Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Senior Correctional Services Technicians supervise and participate in the work of Correctional Services Technicians who personally perform and/or supervise jail inmates in maintenance and other non-security services at a correctional facility; determines jail supply and equipment needs according to current inmate population; establishes order intervals and quantities; supervises and/or performs the receiving, storing, arranging, distributing and issuing of supplies, maintenance or inventory and preparation of requisitions and purchase orders; and prepares records and periodic reports relating to work in process and completed work; and perform other duties as required. As a supervisor you will be required to complete Worker's Compensation reports for CST's injured on the job; write annual performance evaluations and establish PIP goals for subordinates; document disciplinary problems or poor work performance, including tardiness issues or abuse of sick time, and establish improvement plans for One year of experience and/or education and training directly related to the required knowledge and abilities. Knowledge of: Principles and methods of supervision, including motivation and control of jail inmates performing assigned tasks; methods and procedures for receiving, storing, controlling, distributing and issuing supplies in a large correctional institution, including a variety of clothing and cleaning supplies; methods, procedures, tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance and operating machines and power tools; safety practices in lifting and storing tools, equipment and materials; methods of identification and property control for incoming and outgoing inmates at a large correctional facility; computer-based technology (Intranet, Internet, web-based search engines). Ability to: Plan, organize, schedule, and supervise the work of several subordinates or inmates; effectively communicate work assignments and expectations to subordinates; motivate persons with limited incentives, such as jail inmates, to work efficiently and in accordance with instructions; plan task sequences and estimate time intervals for accomplishing work objectives and utilizing resources efficiently; plan and organize efficient space layout for a large number of supply items that vary widely in size, weight and frequency or use; read, write, and understand moderately complex data and instructions in English, such as contained in requisitions, purchase orders and operating directions; perform moderately complex number computations, including fractions, decimals, and percentages; analyze moderately complex data, correctly identify problems and develop valid recommendations and proposals; initiate and complete assignments with minimum supervision; establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with subordinates and other staff; use a County-approved means of transportation; and effectively operate common office machines. Physical Requirements: Incumbent should have the ability on a daily basis to: stand, walk, and sit to supervise inmates and conduct related job duties at a desk; stoop, bend, twist back, kneel, squat, or crawl to look under cabinets and sinks for materials; repetitive use of hands, arms, or shoulders to keyboard orders into the computer or type forms; lift or carry up to 10 pounds of supplies; light pushing or pulling of supplies; and vision sufficient to read fine print and a computer screen. Environmental Conditions: The incumbent will be working (for the most part) within the confines of a large correctional facility, plus interacting with inmates that are incarcerated within a jail facility on a daily basis. Occasionally, the incumbent will have moderately difficult interaction with emotional and/or hostile public or inmates. Complex interpersonal contact can occur when dealing with public and/or co-workers. At times, hazardous materials such as maintenance tools, equipment or cleaning supplies may be utilized during the scope of work to be completed.
