Job Responsibilities and Requirements: The incumbent for this position will work with the Physician in providing Medical care to patients, of various ages, according to the policy of the individual practice and in accordance with Nursing professional standards and Medical foundation policies and procedures in the Internal Medicine Department. Clinical duties may include: taking Medical histories, recording vital signs and current medications, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the Physician during the examination. Provide patients with information regarding medication use and special diets; communicate and document prescription refills as directed to the appropriate pharmacy. Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience - Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a Physician Office in the Internal Medicine department, hospital or similar experience preferred. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Assistant certification is required. Demonstrated knowledge of Medical terminology. Knowledge: Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of what constitutes a Medical emergency requiring a Physician or licensed Nurse's attention. Knowledge of scope of practice of a Medical Assistant. Knowledge of Medical terminology. Knowledge of computers and their applications. Skills: The qualified candidate must also posess basic Data Entry/computer skills and the ability to operate other Office equipment as required (i.e. fax, copier, telephone, etc.).
