 Materials and Equipment Manager

LOCATION:                  Cochrane, AB (We offer paid relocation)
POSITION STATUS:    Permanent, full-time
DEPARTMENT:             Industrial Services, South Region

Reporting directly to the Southern Region Vice President the Materials and Equipment Manager is responsible for

  • Managing all aspect of fleet, material requisition, acquisition, and inventory control. 
  • Directing and administering purchasing, logistics, warehousing, material sequencing.
  • Scheduling of materials scheduling staff, budgeting multi-region Materials & Equipment requirements.
  • Creating a resource environment for field staff in support of projects they are working on.
  • Negotiating, preparation and management of supply contracts and subcontracts. 
  • Acquisition and repairs and maintenance for fleet and heavy equipment in the region
Key Responsibility Areas:
  • Manage the M&E and fleet activities at region offices in southern and portion of central region.
  • Allocate and transfer equipment between operating entities to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Manage and direct area managers, project managers and superintendents in repair and maintenance of fleet and industrial equipment.
  • Manage logistics for start up and close out of projects.
  • Ensure that all necessary materials are requisitioned using proper procedures from approved suppliers.
  • Investigate and solve problems resulting from materials shortages.
  • Ensure Materials are properly received and accounted for using prescribed systems for paperwork flow and inspection.
  • Responsible for storing materials using orderly, systematic methods to insure prompt location and accurate inventory.
  • Direct operation of shipping & receiving department and guide staff in the performance of their duties.
  • Develop, establish, and provide for the maintenance of reporting systems that relates to the materials function.
  • Ensure that all safety standards are in compliance for the materials department staff.
  • Adapt shipping and receiving staff to changing conditions (equipment, break-downs, space availability, manpower availability, etc.)
  • Follow up on work and safety work orders with the applicable associates to ensure expeditious performance of the requested work.
  • Establish and maintain Supply Chain Management systems, practices and policies to ensure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with vendors. Keep informed on legal matters affecting purchasing policies.
  • Collaborating with Project and Maintenance Managers, ensure subcontract cost and schedules remain within budgets and with acceptable quality.
  • Manage office and building maintenance
  • Contribute to the corporate asset management team as part of the group.  Deal directly with CFO and VP Finance and other senior managers relating to asset management.
  • Develop policy’s and budgets for the region and works collaboratively to create company wide policies and budgets.
  • Responsible for continuing programs of exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery. 
  • Negotiate national and preferred pricing contracts / arrangements.
  • Ensure Company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with Purchasing, Shipping & Receiving.
  • Keep abreast of materials, markets, and materials pricing trends that effect Company products.
  • Support teams with respect to the planning and execution of subcontracts and negotiating and initiating contracts, and manage overall program performance from inception to end of life.
  • Analyze proposals submitted by suppliers and subcontractors ensuring they conform to proposal stipulations, applicable laws, regulations and company policy.
  • Develop and present reports on key items of responsibility.
  • Fleet vehicle tracking and monitoring/reporting.  Keep abreast of vehicle issues and working with field personal to keep the fleet operational. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Excellent planning & organizational skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft office skills, specifically including excel and word
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Leadership skills and ability to represent the company to outside interest groups.
  • Experience in MRO and equipment and fleet operations is essential
Education/Technical/Certification and Experience Requirements:
  • CPIM/APICS designation will greatly enhance candidacy.
  • Post secondary diploma, Certificate or degree in a mechanical or related field.
  • 5- 10 years experience in supply chain management, logistics and inventory management.
