RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Program, design, build, and test tools, applications and processes for Underwriting staff for individual account submissions (new and renewal business) regarding data quality, adherence to underwriting guidelines, profitability, portfolio impact, and other catastrophe-risk-related metrics
- Track and manage back-end catastrophe risk portfolio aggregations, data quality, and modeled loss estimates
- Provide monthly and ad-hoc reports to management regarding the current catastrophe risk portfolio, including catastrophe reinsurance pro formas
- Provide reinsurance brokers with portfolio data captures of catastrophe risk exposures for the purpose of reinsurance pricing and rating agency report generation
- Provide necessary actuarial support documentation for state regulatory rate filings
- Keep apprised of upgrades in catastrophe modeling software and of advances in the science and industry of catastrophe modeling
- Make suggestions to management on appropriate catastrophe modeling software upgrades and purchases
- Act as liaison between catastrophe model vendors, company IT staff, and company Underwriting staff during the installation and upgrading of catastrophe model software
- Analyze Underwriting workflow and make suggestions for improvement, especially as it pertains to catastrophe modeling
- Research catastrophe-related non-modeled risks and attempt to mathematically quantify those risks and/or make suggestions for underwriting guidelines that will appropriately mitigate the company’s exposure to those risks
- Provide suggestions to management in the event that the company is considering entering a new catastrophe-risk-related line of business or geographic region
- Analyze potential assumed catastrophe-risk-related portfolios as needed
- Provide estimates to Finance Department and management regarding financial rating agency capital requirements and current company catastrophe risk profile
- Train incoming staff as needed
- Provide training materials, documentation, and suggestions to Underwriting staff concerning catastrophe models as needed.
- Review Underwriting policy language and catastrophe reinsurance treaties to verify that data is being accurately entered into, and proper loss estimates are being created by, the catastrophe model software



QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- An ideal candidate will have a degree, work experience or demonstrated abilities in both Computer Science or Information Systems and a quantitative discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Management Science, etc.)
- Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) or similar computer programming skills required
- Experience using MS SQL Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager preferred 
- Intermediate to Advanced skills in MS Excel and MS Access
- Experience with Java/C++, web services, and XML technologies and an understanding of SOA preferred
- Experience using at least one of the major catastrophe modeling software products at a portfolio management level (e.g.: RiskLink, CLASIC/2, WORLDCATenterprise)
- Certified Catastrophe Risk Analyst (CCRA) designation and/or AIR Institute Certification preferred
- Understanding the principals of software engineering and experience with .NET and C# a plus
