Position Title: SOLUTIONS ARCHITECT MICRSOFT

 

Division: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

POSITION SUMMARY

Job Function – Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is looking to hire an experienced Microsoft Solutions Manager to help maximize the investments made in key Microsoft technologies by the school district.  The role of the architect is to evangelize best use of current and future technology innovations as best applicable to the advancement of student, teachers and employees of APS.  The right resource will have hands on experience with multiple Microsoft client facing technologies and may have experience working in the education sector.

 

The solutions Architect assumes primary responsibility for the solution architecture of existing and future business applications within the APS portfolio.  As an elite member of the Architecture team he/she will interact with the Data Architect and individual Application Leads.  The Solutions Architect will provide input into the EA program, in selecting the appropriate enterprise-wide technologies and defining process guidelines.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

% OF TIME

Manage new/existing solution development, market analysis, communications and coordination, product launch, product line logistics coordination, SME/vendor management and relations, and day-to-day management of relevant partner relations.

25%

Developing and implementing an APS-wide go-to-market plan for the Microsoft suite of technologies, and working with all departments to execute.  This will include managing the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities, such as:

·        Actively reviewing the Microsoft Product Release Plan

 

·        Creating internal solution roadmaps

 

·        Developing requirements in collaboration with business teams

 

·        Working with vendors or development teams to develop and deploy solutions.

Provide technical expertise through a hands-on approach to teams and projects developing enterprise solutions, interfaces, and tools, including workflow processes based on Business Process Modeling, process orchestration, data transformation & routing within the context of a service oriented architecture.

10%

Provide technical design leadership across multiple application development teams, making decisions, ensuring consistency of approach and swift resolution of cross-team issues and dependencies.

10%

Ensures that projects and project teams are in alignment with Enterprise Architecture and state vision regarding solution architecture.  Has independent authority to approve/reject proposed solutions from the development teams on projects.

Conduct a comprehensive audit of all existing business applications and document their current state using architectural diagrams

Research and evaluate technologies and technical solutions; determine technical solution design options and trade-offs.

Position Title: MICRSOFT SOLUTIONS MANAGER

 

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS

Formal Education:

Bachelor’s degree or 8+ years of applicable work experience with at least 5 or more years of experience as a Solution/Application Architect

Work Experience:

·        Must be able to prioritize workload on the fly.  Must be flexible in shifting priorities and must be able to make independent decisions in prioritizing as well as take direction in setting priorities

·        Must proactively assemble and manage cross-functional teams as necessary to implement and manage key business initiatives

·        Must have excellent written or oral communication skills

·        Must be able to recognize, suggest and take action on new opportunities and projects on their own initiative.

·        Will be expected to develop full plans and programs often with limited or only outline level direction from management

·        Experience in a customer-facing role required

·        Strong presentation skills required

·        5+ years project and or product management experience required.

·        Deep knowledge of, but not limited to, the following products: Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Office Suite of products, Office 365, Live@edu, Microsoft Azure, Desktop Virtualization

·        Prior experience creating benchmark tests, designing for scalability and performance, and designing/integrating large-scale systems.

·        Experience in Public Sector/Education vertical is a strong plus

Certifications/Licenses:

Microsoft Certifications highly desired.

Decision Making:

Highly Complex: Supervisor is available to review established departmental and/or Organizational objectives. Independent judgment is required to recommend departmental or Organizational objectives.

Internal Communication:

Varied: Director is available on an "as-needed" basis to establish broad objectives related to basic position duties to departmental responsibilities.  Independent judgment is required.

External Communication:

Requires regular contact with outside agencies and vendors; may require contact with officials at higher levels. (e.g. auditors)

Managerial Skills:

Responsible for providing supervision for one or more functions within the a department, and for the direction of the Enterprise Application Executive Director

Technology Application:

Applies, recommends, and implements highly advanced technology concepts to improve organization-wide efficiency and effectiveness or has final approval of technology applications to be used throughout APS.

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Knowledge of the following:

·        Demonstrable knowledge and experience designing complex business solutions using appropriate tools and technologies.

·        Strong background in systems architecture and relevant technologies, including portal technologies (SharePoint), high availability design, internet security, identity management, we and application server environments, session management, transaction management, middleware messaging, content management.

·        Exposure to one or more formal software development lifecycle methodologies (e.g., Agile, RUP, MSF)
